I would like to make Nigella's Nutella Cake and I would like to check if the the only sugar in the cake is from the Nutella?
Our answer
Nigella's Nutella Cake (from Domestic Goddess) is a flourless type of chocolate cake which is made with Nutella, eggs, butter, chocolate and ground hazelnuts. The cake rises due to the incorporation of whisked egg whites. As Nutella has sugar as one of its main ingredients the cake batter does not need the addition of extra sugar.
The resulting cake is therfeore not too cloyingly sweet and has a fantatsically moist interior. It is also a great cake to make in advance as it freezes well. Once the cake has cooled completely wrap it tightly (still on the springform pan base) in a double layer of clingfilm (plastic wrap) and a double layer of foil. Freeze for up to 3 months. To thaw the cake, unwrap it and put the cake on a wire rack at room temperature for 2 to 3 hours. The ganache icing can be frozen separately but needs reheating very gently to pour over the cake, so generally it is easier to make it just before you need to use it.
