What Was The Doughnut-Like Special Dessert Nigella Made?

Asked by jressica. Answered on 13th February 2012

Full question

I saw Nigella making a lovely piped long doughnut-type sweet thing that is cooked in oil - it would be fab for Valentine's day for my hubby! I think it might have been Spanish but I cannot find the recipe. She dipped them in melted chocolate and shared them with a friend on the TV show. I really would love to have this recipe if possible and would be so grateful for any help at all in finding it.

Our answer

The recipe that you are looking for is Nigella's Churros recipe from Kitchen (p437). The churros batter is piped, deep fried and then the fingers of churros are dipped into a rich chocolate sauce. The recipe isn't currently available on-line but there is a link below to a similar recipe on the website from Thomasina Miers. When deep frying any foods please keep a close eye on the pan and never leave it unattended.

If you are looking for a special menu then Nigella has also picked out some of her favourite recipes for Valentine's day and these are currently on a special section of the website - see the link below or go to the Recipes section of the website and click on Nigella's Valentine's Recipes in the blue bar at the top. You can also look for romantic recipes on the website by using the mood refining function - just click on "romantic" and refine your search.
