I made the pumpkin cheesecake for my then-boyfriend's mom's birthday (she was 71 but he reversed the numbers to make his mom feel younger...) last autumn. Unfortunately the top of the cake crumbled in the oven so I improvized and made a thick salted caramel topping and it was a really good decision! She never ate desserts made with pumpkin before, so she was over the moon. :) Thanks Nigella!
