I did as Nigella said and took a plateful of these soft, buttery delights into the garden on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The crushed strawberries were a revelation - I much prefer their fresh sweetness this way rather the traditional jam. I sprinkled the shortcakes with golden caster sugar for a caramelised finish. Beautiful!
