Ever since this beautiful book arrived, I’ve been clutching it to me for comfort. Through its evocative photography, and words as lovely as the food, it soothes the soul, telling a story as much about people and the relationships between them as place. I’ve just fallen in love with it, and know that the warm embrace of the many recipes contained within will provide succour in the cold, dark months ahead.
I have to say, there’s not a recipe in this book I didn’t want to share with you today. This should make it easier to choose one, but it really doesn’t. We’re spoilt for choice: it could have been the Irish Farmhouse Loaves; Guinness Bread; Potato Bread; Treacle Scones; Rosemary and Lavender Shortbreads; Irish Pancake; Fifteens; Mince and Potato Pie; Irish Cream Cheesecake; Warm Lemony Treacle Tart; Irish Apple Cake with Whiskey Sultanas; Damson and White Chocolate Cream Swiss Roll; Flourless Malted Chocolate Cake with Honeycomb Cream; Gooseberry and Elderflower Meringue Cake; Apple and Blackberry Shortcake with Maple Cream — or so much more. I’ve barely scratched the surface. For perfect happiness, you do need this book in your life but, in the meantime, let me leave you with these beautiful Soda Farls.
