Metric Cups
  • 500 grams wholemeal flour (or strong brown flour)
  • 25 grams butter
  • 1 dried yeast (quick action)
  • 300 millilitres water (warm)
  • 2 tablespoons treacle (or treacle)
  • 18 ounces whole wheat flour (or strong brown flour)
  • 1 ounce butter
  • 1 dried yeast (quick action)
  • 10½ fluid ounces water (warm)
  • 2 tablespoons molasses (or treacle)

Method

  • Mix flour and salt together. Rub in butter. Mix in sachet of yeast. Add treacle/treacle and stir in with water
  • Knead 5-10 minutes by hand
  • Prove in warm place for 1 1/2-2hrs
  • Knock back Knead for a minute
  • Place on baking tray covered with tea towel to rise again for 1/2 hour
  • Bake at 200.c for approx 30 mins until sounds hollow
