A sweet, slightly chewy biscuit

Ingredients

Serves: 40

Metric Cups
  • 100 grams butter (or margarine)
  • 100 millilitres water
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla sugar
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
  • 50 millilitres almonds
  • 300 millilitres wholewheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 4 ounces butter (or margarine)
  • 3½ fluid ounces water
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla sugar
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
  • 1¾ fluid ounces almonds
  • 10½ fluid ounces wholewheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Method

  • Mix butter, sugar, vanilla sugar and syrup to an airy dough,
  • Chop the almonds quite finely.
  • Mix together flour and bicarbonate of soda. Add to the dough along with the almonds and mix well.
  • Divide dough into four and make "ribbons" of about the thickness of a finger.
  • Place on a baking plate and flatten slightly with a fork.
  • Pre-heat oven to 175 degrees Celsius and bake for ca 10 minutes.
  • Cut into pieces while the biscuits still have some heat.
