Fill well-greased oven dish with thin slices of apples which have been peeled and cored. Mix together sugar, flour, salt and nutmeg. Work butter into dry ingredients with a pastry blender until the mixture is like course corn meal. Pat mixture on top of apples to form a top crust. There is no bottom crust. Bake in a moderate oven, 325 degrees F. for 50 minutes. Cook and serve from the dish. It's delicious topped with whipped cream or ice cream as well as fresh cream.
Introduction
Smooth apple crisp. Delicious reheated. Other fruits may be substituted for the apples.
