Ingredients

Serves: This should make enough for 3

Metric Cups
  • chilli powder (hot)
  • ground cinnamon
  • salt
  • pepper
  • fresh coriander
  • 500 grams minced beef
  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes
  • ½ tub tomato puree
  • 1 beef stock (oxo cube dissolved with the bovril int the boiling water)
  • 1 tablespoon bovril
  • 150 millilitres boiling water
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • ¾ clove garlic (crushed)
  • 1 tin kidney beans
  • sweet chilli sauce
  • ground cumin
  • ground coriander

  • 18 ounces ground beef
  • 1 tin diced tomatoes
  • ½ tub tomato puree
  • 1 beef broth (oxo cube dissolved with the bovril int the boiling water)
  • 1 tablespoon bovril
  • 5¼ fluid ounces boiling water
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • ¾ clove garlic (crushed)
  • 1 tin kidney beans
  • sweet chile sauce
  • ground cumin
  • ground coriander

Method

Dads Chili Con Carne is a community recipe submitted by Hayles and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Heat oil in a pan, add chopped onions and garlic. Once cooked, add the mince and cook through.
  • Drain fat from the pan, then add the tinned tomatoes, tomato puree and oxo-bovril water.
  • Drain and rinse the tinned kidney beans, then add to the mince mixture. Once kidney beans are cooked, add chili sauce, salt and pepper and spices.
  • I have not given amounts for spices and chili sauce as I add small amounts gradually and build up the flavour by tasting after each addition. It's all about your individual taste.
  • Once you are happy with the taste, serve with rice, jacket potato etc.. and garnish with some coriander.
