Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 ounces butter
  • 1 cup dates
  • 8¾ fluid ounces buttermilk
  • berry jam
  • whipped cream (to serve)

Method

  • Place flour, salt, baking soda, cream of tartar and cinnamon in a food processor. Add butter and pulse until mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Tip into a bowl and add dates.
  • Mix to a soft dough with buttermilk. Knead together lightly.
  • Pat into a circle and I used a small round glass to press out scones.
  • Fan bake at 190°C for 15-20 minutes.
  • Serve with berry jam and whipped cream.
