An easy delicious cake with an orange then chocolate topping.

Ingredients

Serves: 4-6

Metric Cups

For the Cake

  • 150 grams butter (softened)
  • 200 grams self-raising flour
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 200 grams golden caster sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 large orange zest

For the Orange Topping

  • 3 tablespoons orange juice
  • 50 grams golden caster sugar

For the Chocolate Topping

  • 50 grams dark chocolate

For the Cake

  • 5 ounces butter (softened)
  • 7 ounces self-rising flour
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 7 ounces superfine sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 large orange zest

For the Orange Topping

  • 3 tablespoons orange juice
  • 2 ounces superfine sugar

For the Chocolate Topping

  • 2 ounces bittersweet chocolate

Method

  • Beat all the ingredients together with a hand whisk or wooden spoon for about 3-5 mins then put into a lined, greased 1.2l loaf tin.
  • Bake 40 - 50 mins at 180C Meanwhile, heat the orange juice and golden caster sugar in a pan, stirring till the sugar is dissolved. Spoon this over the cooked cake and leave to cool in the tin.
  • When cool, remove from the tin and cool completely on a wire rack.
  • Finally, melt the chocolate over simmering water or in the microwave.
  • Drizzle it over the cake and leave to set.
