Ingredients

Serves: 3-4

Metric Cups
  • crunchy peanut butter
  • milk
  • kecap manis (Indonesian soy sauce)
  • fresh ginger
  • chilli paste (sambai, or just some chilli powder)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • ground coriander
  • ground cumin
  • pepper

Method

Real Satay Sauce is a community recipe submitted by svooijen and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Put half a large jar of peanut butter in a saucepan on medium heat, Keep adding milk and stirring until it has the consistency of thick yoghurt,
  • Add 3 or 4 tablespoons of ketchap manis and stir, Add the finely chopped or crushed garlic, Add the chilli paste or powder (as much as you dare), Add a big teaspoon of ginger, A teaspoon of cumin, a teaspoon of coriander, add pepper... and taste!
  • Bit bland? Add some sambal, ketchap and pepper. Bit flat? Add some ginger, coreander and cumin.
  • Bit dry or too thick? Add some milk.
