Yummy prawn fritters - spicy, tender, best served with drinks. Indian snack.

Ingredients

Serves: 4-6

Metric Cups
  • 250 grams prawns (cleaned, shelled and de-veined)
  • 2 large potatoes (boiled and mashed)
  • 1 teaspoon chinese five spice
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • oil (for deep frying)
  • 1 tablespoon oil (for cooking the prawns)
  • 2 eggs
  • breadcrumbs
  • 1 bunch fresh coriander (chopped finely)
  • 8⅚ ounces shrimp (cleaned, shelled and de-veined)
  • 2 large potatoes (boiled and mashed)
  • 1 teaspoon chinese five spice
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • oil (for deep frying)
  • 1 tablespoon oil (for cooking the prawns)
  • 2 eggs
  • breadcrumbs
  • 1 bunch cilantro (chopped finely)

Method

Prawn Cutlets is a community recipe submitted by swapna and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Add chilli, turmeric powder and the prawns. Cook till water from the prawns completely dries up. Cool.
  • Grind / mince the above in a food processor. Add mashed potatoes, 5 spice powder, coriander leaves.
  • Divide the mixture into small 1 inch round balls.
  • Beat eggs. Flatten each ball with your hands, dip in the eggs, then in the bread crumbs and deep fry till brown. Serve hot.
