Victoria Sponge's mums trifle. It may sound odd but tastes so good. We eat this every Christmas.

Ingredients

Serves: 4-6

Metric Cups
  • trifle sponges (enough to line bottom of trifle dish)
  • 1 packet strawberry jelly
  • 1 tin tinned mandarins (drained - keep syrup for jelly)
  • 2 tins custard
  • 1 tub double cream (large)
  • flaked almonds
  • savoiardi cookies (enough to line bottom of trifle dish)
  • 1 packet strawberry jell-o
  • 1 tin tinned mandarins (drained - keep syrup for jelly)
  • 2 tins custard
  • 1 tub heavy cream (large)
  • sliced almonds

Method

Jasmine's Mandarin Trifle is a community recipe submitted by victoria sponge and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Place trifle fingers in bottom of trifle dish and fill in holes by breaking pieces to fit
  • Scatter drained mandarin segments over the fingers
  • Make quick gel according to packet instructions, using mandarin syrup in the liquid content Pour quickgel over the mandarin segments Leave to cool
  • When cool add the custard layer over the top Whip the cream and add on top of the custard
  • Add flaked almonds as they are or toast first Chill trifle
  • Note: my mum prefers to break up a flake on the top ENJOY!!!
