Combine butter, chocolate, sugar, water, liqueur and coffee powder, stir over a low heat until chocolate is melted. Transfer to large mixing bowl and cool. Stir in sifted flours and cocoa, then eggs, one at a time. Pour mixture into a prepared 20cm cake tin. Bake in moderate slow oven for 1hr 30mins (approx). Stand cake for 30 minutes, cooling on a wire rack.

- 5 ounces bittersweet chocolate
- 16 ounces superfine sugar
- 8⅘ fluid ounces water
- 2⅘ fluid ounces tia maria (or Kahlua)
- 1 tablespoon instant coffee (powdered)
- 8 ounces all-purpose flour
- 1 ounce self-rising flour
- 1 ounce unsweetened cocoa
- 2 eggs
