Ingredients

Makes: 1 loaf

Metric Cups
  • 500 grams strong white bread flour
  • 7 grams rapid rise yeast
  • 2 teaspoons table salt
  • 1 tablespoon sunflower oil
  • 300 millilitres lukewarm water
  • 17⅔ ounces strong white bread flour
  • ¼ ounce rapid rise yeast
  • 2 teaspoons table salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 11 fluid ounces lukewarm water

Method

  • Put all the dry ingredients into a large bowl. Pour in the water and sunflower oil. Use a roundbladed knife to mix it to a soft dough. Add more water if dry.
  • Knead for 8 mins until smooth and elastic. Oil a large bowl cover with clingfilm and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1.5 hours.
  • Grease a 900g loaf tin measuring 20x10.5cm and 6cm deep. Take out risen dough knead 3 to 4 times then place the dough in to the loaf tin. Clingfilm the tin and leave to rise for 30 mins.
  • Heat the oven at 230ºc sprinkle flour on top of loaf and then put in oven for 10 mins. Then reduce oven temp to 200ºc and then bake for 30-40 mins.
  • Get the loaf out of the tin then turn it over and tap the bottom it should sound hollow. If not place upside down for few more mins. Cool on a wire rack.
