Full question
For the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake does Nigella really mean dry roasted peanuts? Like the savoury ones?
Our answer
Nigella's Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake (from COOK, EAT, REPEAT) has layers of moist chocolate sponge that are sandwiched with a light, almost mousse-like, peanut butter frosting. Nigella decorates the cake with chopped dry roasted peanuts.
Using savoury dry roasted peanuts is correct. The slightly spicy, smoky coating of the dry roasted peanuts contrasts well with the sweet frosting and stops it from becoming too cloying. If you don't like dry roasted peanuts then you can use regular salted, roasted peanuts as an alternative. You could also omit the decoration altogether, but we think that the sweet-savoury contrast makes the cake even more delicious.
