Full question
Can the Molten Chocolate Babycakes be cooked from frozen and if so what time would you suggest cooking them for? Fridge space is at a premium, so freezer storage would be helpful.
Our answer
Nigella's Molten Chocolate Babycakes (from HOW TO BE A DOMESTIC GODDESS) is a fondant chocolate dessert, where the outside of the babycakes forms a cakey crust during baking, but the centre remains liquid and luscious. It is possible to make the pudding batter a day ahead and storing the ramekins or pudding moulds in the fridge. If you bake direct from chilled then you are likely to need to use the slightly longer baking time of 12 minutes.
It is probably possible to freeze the unbaked Babycakes and bake from frozen. You would bake from frozen using the same oven temperature and we would guess at the baking time being about 15 minutes. However we have not tried this ourselves and so are unable guarantee the results. Also as ovens vary and the baking time for this type of dessert is quite important, we would strongly recommend testing the baking time during a trial run, if the dessert is for a special occasion.
