Hi, I was planning on making the Cumin Seed Cake. Can I substitute the orange blossom water with something else? Thanks.

Our answer

Nigella's Cumin Seed Cake (from AT MY TABLE) substitutes toasted cumin seeds for the more regular caraway seed. The cake batter is flavoured with orange blossom water and orange zest to enhance the smoky flavour of the cumin.

Orange blossom water can be bought in many supermarkets. It adds an extra floral note to the orange flavour from the zest. However, if you are having trouble finding it then we would suggest using 1 teaspoon of orange juice from the zested orange as an alternative.
