Dish for Irish Cream Tiramisu

Asked by Unknown. Answered on 19th July 2014

Full question

Made the Irish Cream Tiramisu many times and it is always delish. But having posh guests soon and was wondering if I could make it in a trifle bowl instead of the baking dish?

Our answer

NIgella's Irish Cream Tiramisu (from Nigella Express and on the Nigella website) is made in a 20 x 20 cm/8 x 8 inch square baking dish. It would certainly be possible to make the dessert in a trifle bowl. The capacity of the square dish is about 1.7 litres (7 cups) so you will need to make sure that the trifle bowl you use has a similar capacity.

You may find that as the surface area of the bowl will be different to a square dish then you may need to make 3 layers of savoiardi and mascarpone mixture rather than two, but the layers should look quite attractive in a glass bowl. An alterntive, for a smart dinner, would be to make individual portions in martini glasses or coupes, and you may like to look at Nigella's Tiramisini recipe as a guide.
