Fruit For No Fuss Fruit Tart

Asked by AM1984. Answered on 26th August 2019

Full question

Which fruits can I use instead of berries for the No-Fuss Fruit Tart? In India berries are very expensive at this time of the year. I have access to peach, plums, mangoes, guavas, pears, oranges, sweet lime, bananas and frozen blueberries. Please suggest.

Our answer

Nigella's No-Fuss Fruit Tart (from KITCHEN) is called no-fuss as the base is made from cookie crumbs and the filling is an easy combination of cream cheese and lemon curd. Nigella uses a combination of summer berries as they can be simply tumbled on to the top of the tart just before serving.

However it is possible to use any combination of fruits that you prefer and have to hand. If you are using large fruits, such as mangoes and guavas, then you should remove any skin, seeds or pits/stones and cut them into slices before arranging them on top of the tart. If you are using fruits that turn brown after they are cut, such as pears and bananas, then cut them and put them on the tart just before serving. You could also brush these fruits with a little lemon juice after cutting, to help to slow down any discolouration.
