Oven Temperature for Maple Chicken N Ribs
Asked by Stigi. Answered on 8th March 2015
Full question
In the Maple Chicken N Ribs recipe is the oven temperature 200c for a fan or conventional oven? Would it be 180c for a fan oven? Thanks!
Our answer
Nigella's Maple Chicken N Ribs (from Nigella Express and on the Nigella website) is a traybake recipe where the meats are marinated and then roasted in a hot oven. The oven temperature of 200c/400F is for a conventional oven. All of Nigella's recipes state temperatures and timings for conventional ovens.
If you have a fan assisted or convection oven then you will need to adjust the temperature. Your oven handbook should give guidelines for adjusting as some modern ovens have different functions (bake, roast etc.) and may adjust temperatures automatically. If you don't have a book then generally you would set a fan or convection oven at 20c/50F lower than the conventional oven temperature. Even with a lower temperature some fan ovens can still be quite powerful and you may find that the dish will still cook more quickly. So we would suggest that you start checking to see if the ribs and chicken are cooked after 1 hour.
