Stand Mixers

Asked by NZBlonde. Answered on 31st May 2012

Full question

Hi Nigella & Team, I need a new stand mixer. I am a very keen baker and cook and my family has had a Kenwood stand mixer since I was little. I'm 18 in July and it needs replacing so I would like to get one for my birthday. I was just wondering what type Nigella uses? Thank you from New Zealand. p.s Nigella you're fabulous, keep up the great work!

Our answer

Stand mixers are useful as you can get on with mixing a batter or dough and keep your hands free for other tasks. Nigella has a Kitchen Aid but there are several good brands of stand mixer available and you should really look at what you are most likely to use your mixer for.

We would certainly suggest choosing a mixer which has a powerful motor and several speed settings, and we would look for one which comes with the 3 different types of mixing implements (whisk, flat paddle and dough hook) to cover a broad range of baking recipes. However some mixers offer attachments to go with them and if these are important to you then you should check the attachments on offer before choosing the final mixer.

Also there are some reasonably priced hand mixers available and a hand mixer can comfortably be used for all of Nigella's recipes, as can a bowl, a wooden spoon and plenty of elbow grease.
