Tablespoon Measurements

Asked by Evell. Answered on 11th September 2018

Full question

I'm looking at Nigella's Gemelli With Anchovies, Tomatoes and Mascarpone and just wondering what does 1 x 15 ml, 2 x 15ml tablespoons translate to?

Our answer

Nigella's Gemelli With Anchovies, Tomatoes And Mascarpone (from AT MY TABLE) is a quick pasta dish, where the sauce is made while the pasta is cooking. For ease the measurements are given in tablespoons.

For the metric version of the recipe on the website (and in the metric books) they are written as "x 15ml tablespoons". This is to indicate that a proper measuring spoon should be used. Historically in the UK a serving spoon can also be called a tablespoon and the volume of these spoons can vary. In addition an Australian tablespoon is 20ml, so we prefer to clarify the volume. A 15ml tablespoon is the same as a standard US tablespoon (1/2 ounce). On the website you can switch between metric and cup measurements by using the toggle button at the top of the ingredients list.
