What non alcoholic substitute can I use instead of sherry in a trifle? I am making the big Boozy Christmas Trifle for a mixed crowd with lots of children present!

Nigella's The Boozy British Trifle (from NIGELLA CHRISTMAS) is good all year round and not just for Christmas. The trifle uses trifle sponges as a base, which are slightly dry so that they can soak up plenty of sherry. Trifle sponges can be difficult to find outside the UK so you can use 1cm/1/2 inch thick slices of madeira or pound cake that are left on a wire rack to stale for a day or two.
Sherry is traditional in a British trifle and it needs to be a sweet cream shery, rather than a dry sherry. If you have children eating the trifle then fresh orange juice or fresh clementine juice are good non-alcoholic alternatives to the sherry and are also usually juices that children like.
