Our answer

Nigella's Passionfruit Ice-Cream Cake With Coconut-Caramel Sauce is a very easy-to-make dessert. The sweet-sharp passionfruit is a perfect foil for the sweet crushed meringues. We suspect the closest alternative would be mango, as this will also go well with the coconut-caramel sauce, but you would need to puree some mango flesh and sharpen it a little with lime juice. Mango is also not quite as fragrant as passionfruit, so the ice-cream cake will not quite be the same.

One passionfruit has around 2 tablespoons of pulp, so you would need 120mls (½ cup) of lime-sharpened mango purée for the recipe. You may prefer to try Nigella's Meringue Gelato Cake With Chocolate Sauce as this is similar and also very easy to make. If you would prefer a more traditional semifreddo, then we would suggest trying Nigella's Honey Semifreddo.
