Our answer

Nigella's Smoked Trout Pate (from NIGELLA EXPRESS) is made simply by blitzing a few ingredients together in a food processor.

Horseradish is quite a common condiment with smoked fish and adds a little heat and bite to cut through the richness of the fish pate. Wasabi is a possible alternative, but you have to be careful as most wasabi pastes also contain some horseradish, so you would need to use freshly grated wasabi. Also, horseradish cream is a mixture of grated horseradish and cream, so you would need a lot less fresh wasabi, probably less than 1/2 teaspoon. Mustard is another alternative and mustard sauce is popular with salmon and smoked fish in Scandinavia. You could use English mustard or Dijon, but again add 1/2 teaspoon to start and then in small amounts, tasting until you get the balance of flavour that suits your own taste.
