Full question

What do you recommend using instead of pumpkin and sunflower seeds in the Toasty Olive Oil Granola? Unfortunately I'm deathly allergic to both.

Our answer

Nigella's Toasty Olive Oil Granola (from SIMPLY NIGELLA) is slightly less sweet than some granola recipes, but delicious on its own or served with milk, yogurt or fruit. The granola contains a combination of flax, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, plus flaked (sliced) almonds.

If you are allergic to the sunflower and pumpkin seeds then we would suggest replacing these with a mixture of nuts of your choice, such as walnuts, pecans, cashews, shelled unsalted pistachios or hazelnuts. Roughly break up any large nuts before adding them to the oats and spices. You can use any combination of nuts that you prefer, but use 150g in total (about 1 1/4 cups) and also still add both the skin-on (raw) and flaked (sliced) almonds.
