Where Does One Find Garlic Oil Please?
Asked by felix. Answered on 19th February 2011
Full question
Nigella often recommends garlic oil. However, it is not available in our local shops. Moreover homemade garlic oil can be dangerous as it can cause botulinism. So how can I acquire it please?
Our answer
If you leave raw garlic in a bottle of oil at room temperature for a few days, or in the fridge for a long period of time, then there is a risk that botulism will breed. If you want to make a small amount of garlic infused oil to use straight away then put around 6 tablespoons (1/3 cup/90ml) oil in a small saucepan and add a fat clove of garlic, thinly sliced. Warm gently until the garlic is just starting to sizzle then immediately take off the heat and leave to stand for 20-30 minutes. Remove the garlic and you can use the favoured oil. Leftover oil can be stored in the fridge for up to a week (do not store the oil with the garlic in it).
If you can get home delivery from Tesco, Sainsbury's or Ocado then they all offer own brand garlic infused oils. Asda sells Napolina garlic oil in their home delivery service and you can also buy this brand via the website below. Belazu is a premium brand which sells garlic oil in some supermarkets and via the website below. A L'Olivier is another premium brand and the oil can be bought online, again the website is below.
For the US Roland brand garlic oil may be found in some supermarkets. Alternatively more premium garlic infused oiuls can be found via the websites below.
