Making a breakfast cake is my normal chore for our weekend brunch. I was leery about trying a yeast cake because it sounded time consuming compared to my normal coffee cake recipe, but thought I would try making this Kuchen as a fun change (my first Kuchen.) I made the dough before going to bed and put it in the fridge to rise overnight. I've never tried cold rising dough - it made the process surprisingly easy. I also prepared the fruit and crumble topping the night before. In the morning, I spread the fragrant dough in my baking pan, added the fruit, then sprinkled on the topping and put it in the oven. It took no time at all! My family's verdict? It is officially our new favorite brunch pastry!! But I have to be honest, we couldn't resist eating a large portion right when came out hot from the oven (warm goodness!) I could barely keep them away while I grabbed a quick picture. And the smell wafting out of the oven while cooking is sheer heaven. Another wonderful recipe, Nigella!
