I tried this recipe at the last minute as my daughter requested hot cross buns the day before Easter. Made the dough the night before using a good strong flour as Nigella recommended. I didn’t have an egg in the house for the egg wash before baking so brushed with milk instead and it worked just as well! I also didn’t have an orange for the zest to infuse in the milk mixture, so I improvised and used a small teaspoon of sweet orange marmalade instead. The final product was absolutely delicious and enjoyed by all. A real treat having home made hot cross buns. Thanks Nigella!
