Yes, I will admit that it was the title that first lured me to this book, but it’s most definitely the recipes in it that secured its place in this week’s CookbookCorner. Now, I do make cookies, though hardly on a weekly basis, and the ones I make tend to be old favourites. Moreover, I have, as it is, plenty of books dedicated to the subject and there is no good reason for me to add to their number. Still, the heart (and the stomach) has reasons which reason doesn’t know, and so here we are. Right now, frankly, I couldn’t be happier living in a dream of cookies, biscuits and bars. There are so many recipes in it, covering just about every angle, that I hardly know where to start telling you what’s actually in the book. I shall just have to trust my instincts and call out those recipes that I am most drawn to and hope that I cover enough ground without bombarding you. So if you’re ready, I shall take a deep breath and just go for it: Lemon and Poppy Seed Crinkle Cookies; Viennese Whirls; Chunky Levain-style Malted Chocolate-Chip Cookies; Pecan Pie Shortbread Bars; the tiramisu-flavoured Cookimisu; Rhubarb Lattice Pie Cookies; Earl Grey Millionaire Shortbread; Miso Dark Chocolate Flourless Cookies; Apricot Pistachio Crumble Bars; Limoncello Spritz Bars; French Cinnamon Palmiers and German Poppyseed and Marzipan Cookies. I could have shared any of these (and many more not mentioned) gleefully with you today but, in the end, it just had to be these Sesame Honey Cookies!
