Given that it's Father's Day Sunday, I felt I should turn my thoughts to what might be a treat in the form of a dad-dedicated-dish. We've already suggested father-friendly food in 'What we're cooking today' over the weekend, but you know me: restraint not a strong point, so I've got a few more ideas to run past you.
I'm thinking that American Pancakes with Wafer-Bacon and Maple syrup is an obvious choice, but none the worse for that. You could consider topping the pancakes with caramelised apples instead, in which case just peel and quarter an apple, remove the core, and fry gently in butter, sprinkling with sugar and a squirt of lemon juice towards the end of cooking. Remove the apple pieces, and bubble the sauce down until it tastes as you want it to, being careful not to burn your tongue, of course. You could also sprinkle cinnamon in along with the sugar, and perhaps - it is, after all, a celebration - add a scoop of vanilla ice cream. And I wouldn't rule out Doughnut French Toast either. And it would be remiss of me not to mention Elvis Presley's Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich.
And please - none of these delicacies should be considered the preserve of fathers only: all of you, please, eat and enjoy!
