I found some sweet baby aubergines – eggplant for those across the pond – at the supermarket and have been itching to get in the kitchen and play with them. Trouble is, I have just made a list of recipes I want to test and aubergines aren't on it! Still, some of my favourite recipes – probably most of them – are what I've cooked on the spur of the moment because of what I have in the house or have found at the shops, and so I don't feel I should start following orders, even my own!
And if I don't get round to cooking them, I refuse to feel bad, either. I mean, a bowl of these beauties on the table makes it totally unnecessary even to consider buying flowers. Oh, how I love a still life in my kitchen....
