Remove the peel from the oranges and slice thinly. Place in a small, stainless steel sauce pan. Remove zest from the lemon and cut into fine strips and add to the pan along with the water. Bring to a boil over high heat, reduce heat, cover and boil gently for 20 minutes. Remove and discard white rind and seeds from lemon. Chop orange and lemon pulp finely. Add to saucepan, return to a boil and boil gently for 20 minutes. Add sugar, return to boil and boil rapidly, uncovered, until the mixture will form a gel, about 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat. Ladle into jars and process . . . To make cranberry orange marmalade add 1/4 c chopped dried cranberries a few minutes before reaching the gel stage.
