Apple Cake With Calvados

Preheat the oven to 170°. Mix the softened butter with the sugar until you get a smooth mixture. Mix the two kinds of flower together in a bowl. Add the four eggs alternately with the flower mixture, beating well after every adding. Stir in the vanilla sugar. Now peal 1.5 or 2 apples (whichever amount suits you) and cut them into cubes and add them to the dough. Splash in some calvados to your taste (I tend to use rather a lot of it). The dough will have a very fragrant smell by now. Pour the dough into a greased 22 cm round baking tin. Now peal the rest of the apples, and cut it into half-moon parts. Arrange the parts on top of the dough forming circles. Bake in the oven for 45 to 50 minutes. Let the cake cool in the tin, then turn out onto a plate.
