Irish Soda Bread

Sieve together the dry ingredients in a bowl. Add some buttermilk (enough to make a soft, not sticky dough). Use a metal spoon to mix quickly and lightly. Turn onto a lightly floured board and shape into a round. Cut into 4 farls and either bake in a hot oven. Suggested temp is 450°F, depending on size of farls for about 30min. Bear in mind this is for a more old fashioned oven. I find our modern ovens require a slightly lower temp and shorter times. Wrap in a tea towel when it comes out of the oven for a softer soda bread.

- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
- buttermilk (to mix)
