Chop onions into fairly large chunks & roughly chop the garlic, combine both into a medium sized roasting pan & coat with oil. Bake uncovered for 30-40mins @ 160c or until onion browns, stirring occasionally. Blend together the rest of the ingredients except for the water in a kitchen whizz or blender. Stir in the cooked beans, tomato mixture & hot water into the cooked onion & garlic & bake uncovered at 160c for 90mins, stirring occasionally. If it gets too thick just add a bit more water.
Introduction
I love this homemade baked bean recipe as it has a nice BBQ flavour.

Hi there, sounds yummy, please can you clarify - the ingredients list says beans soaked over night, but the instructions say cooked beans. Are they boiled before baking? Or just baked from soaked? Thank you
