My brother was a leaner chef in the army (early 90's) and he made this for us. My kids love it and I have to make it every once and a while.

  • 4 slices bread
  • 4 eggs
  • salt
  • pepper
  • cheese (grated)

Method

  • Use a glass to make a hole in the centre of each slice of bread. Butter the bread on both sides.
  • Spray and cook a pan and put 2 slices in, break an egg into each hole.
  • On medium heat turn the bread over when brown and cook other side.The egg must be soft but firm enough so that the bread can be lifted out of the pan. Season with salt and black pepper. Sprinkle a little grated cheese on top.
