Wholemeal Wheaten Scones

Preheat oven to 220C/425F. Mix all dry ingredients into a bowl, then rub in butter with your fingers until the mixture resembles a crumble then stir in the sugar. Mix butter milk and egg together then add to dry ingredients. Stir all together. The mixture will be a little moist but don't worry that's how it should be. Knead very very gently the mixture a couple of times on a floured surface and cut out scone shapes with a 3" cutter. Cook on the top shelf for 15-17 minutes. Leave to cool on a wire rack then serve with cream/butter and jam.
Introduction
A delicious sweet and crumbly textured scone delicious served with a dollop of whipped cream and raspberry jam. Yummm.

- 10 ounces stoneground whole wheat flour
- 4 all-purpose flour
- 1 handful wheat bran
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 4 ounces butter
- 2 ounces granulated sugar
- 8⅓ fluid ounces buttermilk
- 1 beaten egg
