Our answer

Nigella's Gluten-Free Banana Bread is made with full-fat (whole milk) Greek yogurt as this helps to give the cake a light and tender crumb. The slight acidity of the yogurt also helps to counteract the sweetness of the bananas. We suspect that it may be possible to substitute an unsweetened non-dairy alternative for the Greek yogurt, though in our experience they tend to be naturally slightly sweeter and so may not act to balance the flavour quite as well.

Full-fat Greek yogurt has a fat content of 5-10% (depending on brand) whilst almond milk yogurt tends to be lower in fat, at around 2.5%. Coconut milk yogurt fat content varies widely (the lowest we have found is 5% and the highest 23%) but a few brands have a fat content of around 11% and we would try to look for a coconut milk yogurt that has a fat content of 5-11% as an alternative. However, please note that as we have not tried the recipe with this alternative, we are unable to guarantee the results.
