Ingredients

Serves: 8

Metric Cups
  • 210 grams self-raising flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried mustard powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 40 grams unsalted butter
  • 90 grams mature cheddar
  • 100 millilitres milk
  • 7 ounces self-rising flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried mustard powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 1 ounce unsalted butter
  • 3 ounces mature cheddar
  • 3½ fluid ounces milk

Method

Cheese Scones is a community recipe submitted by kathrynlou and has not been tested by Nigella.com so we are not able to answer questions regarding this recipe.

  • Sift all dry ingredients into a bowl.
  • Grate in butter and cheese and mix with a fork to break down butter and cheese.
  • Add milk with the fork and then knead with your hands.
  • Turn scone mix onto floured work top and roll to about 2cm thick. Either use a cutter or knife to get approx 8 scones. Brush with milk.
  • Preheat oven to 200 c and bake for approx 10 - 15 mins or until golden brown.

    • A wonderful recipe! I used Parmesan cheese instead of cheddar and topped with home-made cumquat marmalade.

    • They didn't rise very high, even though I did follow the recipe exactly. But they tasted lovely! Worth making. Very fluffy and light.
