Breakfast
Breakfast is, quite literally, a feast in that it is a meal that breaks a fast. And even if we don’t turn off the alarm every morning joyfully greeting the new dawn, there is a sense in which that first meal of the day emphatically celebrates being alive. Of course there is a practical issue here – most days, few of us have the time to linger about. Sometimes we really don’t have time to eat breakfast let alone make it. For days like these, I’d suggest a big jar of Andy’s Fairfield Granola or make a batch of Breakfast Bars at the weekend and then you will have a perfect breakfast on the go.
But there are such things as weekends and days when we’re not at work – then it can feel liberating to live beyond the routine, enjoying the moment, pottering around in the kitchen and lingering over breakfast. For me, the weekend cries out for American Breakfast Pancakes – and if you want to make your life even easier, try my Home Made Instant Pancake Mix – or French toast (either Orange French Toast or Doughnut French Toast, you choose).
If you plan ahead and get on the case the night before, you can easily whip up an Apple and Blackberry Kuchen and anyone can put together some not quite authentic, but still delicious, Chocolate Croissants – no dexterity required, I promise.
If your body is a temple, then I’d steer you in the direction of Chopped Fruit Salad and Breakfast Bruschetta. Some days, only eggs will do – in which case, I’d suggest Corsican Omelette or Mexican Scrambled Eggs. But if you’ve overdone it the night before, and you’re feeling like hell – then I say to you, Eggs In Purgatory. This is so easy and speedy to make, I can find time to rustle it up, whatever state I’m in.
